Mel is our most senior learning and development consultant having been in the training field for over thirty years, following several years gaining first hand experience in operational front line supervisory and managerial roles. Through this, Mel has considerable experience in the design and delivery of training solutions within the mail order, retail, distribution, heavy engineering and construction industries.
His career experience includes managing training functions, with accountability for considerable investment expenditure in training. Mel therefore fully understands and supports the need for organisations to gain value from their training investments.
Mel's extensive knowledge of the training function includes implementing the various types of performance management processes and associated appraisal systems (upwards, downwards, appraisee-centred and 180/360 degree) within a wide range of organisations and industry sectors.
During his career, Mel has acquired considerable experience in all aspects of the training cycle, from the design and implementation of job instructor networks at operative level, to designing and delivering bespoke training solutions to meet specific training and development needs at all levels of management. These programmes are often complemented by individual coaching, where Mel is in increasing demand for this type of ongoing support.
His specialist areas of delivery are communication, interpersonal and behavioural skills, as well as leadership and motivational techniques applied to all aspects of management. He is also recognised as an authority on employment legislation and has many clients who regularly commission him to deliver training on issues such as discipline & grievance and absence management.
Since the introduction of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Programmes in 2002, Mel has developed and led many of the ILM accredited programmes within a number of organisations with such success that he has often been commissioned to deliver the same and/or similar programmes on an ongoing basis.
Mel's classroom delivery style is relaxed and inspirational with a brand of humour that involves active participation from delegates, encouraging them to take on board new skills and concepts, whilst at the same time motivating them to apply these skills back in their workplace.
Since joining Associated Training and Consultancy, Mel has been invited back to deliver continuous development programmes for many clients, including Ciba, Lincolnshire Health Authority, Borg Warner, G.P.U., Cott Beverages, Gallifordtry, Henry Boots, May Gurney and DFDS Tor Line.
