Professional Communication

Communication is for everyone and anyone; whether you're a director who wants to brush up before a big meeting, a manager that wants to see things from a different perspective, through to a new starter who's looking to learn and apply themselves. Regardless of position, after taking this course you'll leave with the skills needed to communicate easily and effectively.

In this ILM accredited 2-day course, you will learn and apply the latest techniques in professional communication. Being ILM accredited has several benefits to you; it means the material you're learning has been passed by ILM standards - this provides a mechanism to underpin what you receive on the courses, which will be easily transferred into practical application. It means that you're part way towards an ILM level 3 qualification (speak to your trainer for more details), and it means that you've decided to learn with an ILM approved and accredited training provider.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

Identify and overcome the barriers to effective communication

Recognise the different types of influencing and their uses

Explain the impact of positive influencing on clients, managers and colleagues

Use a range of skills and behaviours to communicate positively and clearly

Course Content

The Professional Communication course is made up of the following modules:

Module One – The Communication Process

• What is effective communication?
• How do we communicate?
• The barriers to effective communication

Module Two – Different Types of Influencing

• Influencing versus manipulation
• What is your preferred influencing style
• The different influencing styles and their uses – adopting a flexible style for the desired outcome

Module Three – Effective Communication Skills

• Demonstrating a positive mental attitude
• Active listening
• Questioning skills
• Using positive language
• Non-verbal communication
